MEOWolith

We designed MEOWolith for CAT TOWER! — a group exhibition at Seattle’s Museum of Museums.

The design prompt was to create a cat tower based on the three traits of success outlined by Frank Crow in 1968.

1 – A clawing surface of maximum appeal to a cat
2 – A climbing structure of high appeal and good exercising
3 – A facility for playing, feeding and sleeping

The Meowoliths created by the Firstborn Felines vanished long ago, their locations scratched away, their very existence but a memory. Using parametric modeling software, a laser cutter and cardboard, we designed, fabricated and assembled a scale model of the ancient scratching towers that were once catalysts for evolution, sapience and cosmic cat power.

“The thing’s hollow — it goes on forever — and — oh my God! — it’s full of [cats]!”
– Arthur C. Clarke 2001: A Space Odyssey

“We can not change our destinies. We just have to have the courage to know what they are, and accept them. StarClan is waiting for me. Goodbye, Leafpool.”
